Enzo and her Three Stitches

One of the many dilemmas of being a mother is, when you see your child in pain.

Last Friday night, while doing the laundry, (Tita Eva was on RD, ’twas her birthday), I allowed Enzo to play with her cousins in my inlaws.

Sa kalagitnaan ng pagbabanlaw ko, she went out, screaming in pain.

Sa room, I grabbed my first aid kit, nila as yung Betadine, cotton pads, gauze, Bactroban and steristrips. While cleaning her wound, napa -shit talaga ako kasi hindi kaya ng steri yung wound. Lacerated. Nilagyan ko pa din.

Then I asked my SIL to prep up, we need to bring Enzo to the ER for suturing and TT shots. Eh nasa work si husband. Double shit talaga.

After cleaning her wound, I asked Enzo to eat first para kahit mag administer ng meds sa ER, she’ll be on full stomach, and I ain’t comfortable eating in the ER, or eating hospital food at that time. We even aren’t sure kung what time kami matatapos. Enzo wanted siomai. While I try to compose myself, I called her yaya. Nanginig kasi talaga ang buong kalamnan ko! Pramis. I asked her to come over and finish my laundry, para lang mabawasan yung alalahanin pa (baka bumaho yung mga damit). Thank God she’s really nice.

I took a bath. It was past 8. The chills down my spine just won’t go away. Had a very light dinner. Then off we went to St. Luke’s Medical Center in Global City. It is our unwritten rule that for emergency cases, it’s our hospital of choice. Mas convenient kasi puntahan, mas malapit.

I carried Enzo from our room to the car. She’s 27.5kgs pero di ko nafeel yung bigat nya, dead weight pa yun ah. Half a sack of rice is 25kgs. Enzo stands 3ft 10ins. Ako, 5ft 2ins lang. Go figure how do we look like.
Sa SLMCGC ER, alert si manong guard who offered wheel chair agad.

Matao din sa ER, pero a Pedia already assesed Enzo after 10 minutes only. Tapos nirefer kami agad sa Surgeon, kasi lacerated nga yung wound. If it was a straight cut, my steri will do naman. Madalang daw yun. Oh well.

After another 10 minutes, 2 surgeons arrived, both said that suturing is needed. Minor operation. I was asked if Enzo can lie still kasi they need to administer local anesthesia near the wound. Ouch. If she can not, they’ll need to sedate her.

Umikot nanaman ang diwa at pwet ko. Dunno if I should call my husband, the yaya or baka mag drunk calling na lang ako. I asked for a few minutes to talk to Enzo, and requested for Tetanus toxoid shot. Toxoid was denied, Tetanus Ig (active / TT Ig) ang binigay. Shet. Grabe iyak tsaka yakap ni Enzo. Malapot kasi yung gamot, as in parang pure honey, tapos IM route (intramuscular) pa. Ayaw na daw nya, enough na, uwi na. Eh ganun din naratamdaman ko. Pero di pwede.

Tapos biglang light bulb moment! Pagbalik nung mga surgeons, I asked if we can apply topical anaesthesia first bago yung local. Parang tooth extraction. The surgeons said yes. Brilliant, Karen! Brilliant! Deadma na sa additional charges! That way, Enzo’s injured foot will be numb na even before the administration of local anaesthesia.

After 30 minutes, the procedure started. Enzo only flinched once. Nakakakaba. In less than 10 minutes, done na!

We were discharge at around 11PM. That’s one of my longest nights! Hay. Get well soon, baby!
